Thanks for the detailed reply. My latest service was just 2 weeks ago at 61305km. The error code displayed is P0597. The main heating system works fine while driving, but the blower motor makes an unusual noise at higher speeds. The temperature sensor readings seem normal on the dash. No coolant leaks detected and ventilation smells normal. No recent heating system work besides regular maintenance checks. The auxiliary heater issue started right after a cold spell when temperatures dropped below freezing. The parking heater worked flawlessly before that.

Thanks for providing those additional details. In my 2015 Passat GTE, I experienced that exact error code P0597 during similar weather conditions. The blower motor noise you mentioned is a critical detail, in my case, it was actually connected to the auxiliary heater problem. The climate control system in these hybrids is quite interconnected. While your main heating works fine, the noise from the blower motor combined with the parking heater failure suggests potential issues with either: 1. A partially blocked heater core causing the blower to strain 2. The auxiliary heater control module showing early signs of failure Based on my experience, the timing right after a cold spell points toward the control module. When mine failed, it started with similar symptoms, working main heat but failing parking heater function. The unusual blower motor sound developed shortly before complete auxiliary heater failure. The repair in my case involved: Control module replacement: 280€, System recalibration: 90€, Labor: 160€ If your symptoms continue matching my experience, I suggest having the control module checked first. Since your car is slightly newer than mine, the parts might differ slightly, but the diagnostic approach should be the same. Considering your recent service, ask the workshop to specifically check the auxiliary heater connections and control module, sometimes these can be disturbed during routine maintenance.

Looking at this info, I now have a much clearer picture of what might be wrong with my 2017 Passat Hybrid. The parallel between our cases, especially with the P0597 code and blower motor noise, is really helpful. The climate control issues starting after the cold spell makes more sense now. Since my temperature sensor readings are normal but the ventilation system is acting up, focusing on the auxiliary heater control module seems like the right path. The total repair cost around 530€ sounds reasonable compared to what I was expecting. I will schedule a workshop visit and ask them to check the control module first. The connection between the blower motor noise and auxiliary heater failure is particularly valuable information. I will also have them verify if anything was disturbed during my recent service. Just to confirm, was your repair a permanent fix, or did you experience any recurring issues with the heat control system afterward?

As someone with moderate experience working on hybrids, I faced a similar issue with my 2015 Passat GTE. The heating system problems started showing up last winter with error codes related to the auxiliary heater. After running basic checks on the heat control module, my usual workshop diagnosed a faulty glow plug in the auxiliary heater. This component is crucial for the parking heater functionality in hybrid vehicles since they rely less on engine heat. The entire repair, including diagnosis, parts, and labor, came to 440€. The workshop needed about 4 hours to complete the job, which involved: Full diagnostic scan, Heater core inspection, Glow plug replacement, System reset and testing Before suggesting specific solutions for your case, could you share: The exact error code displayed? Whether the main heating system works normally while driving? If you notice any coolant leaks or unusual smells from the ventilation system? Have you had any recent work done on the heating system? These details would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced and could save you time and money at the workshop.
