Passat Phone Call System Dead: Mic Issue Alert

Looking for help with my 2022 Passat Hybrid that suddenly stopped working with phone calls. The volume control and audio system work fine for music and navigation, but the hands-free calling is completely dead. When someone calls, the system shows the incoming call but no voice comes through. Speech recognition for voice commands is also not responding. The error log shows a fault but I suspect the microphone repair might be needed. Has anyone encountered similar issues with their hands-free microphone? What was the actual problem and repair solution in your case? Would be great to hear about your workshop experience and repair costs before I take it in.

Having dealt with a similar wireless connection issue on my 2020 Passat GTE Hybrid, I can share my experience. After multiple attempts to resolve sound quality issues with the hands-free system, it turned out the ambient noise control module was defective, which impacted both the microphone system and voice recognition features. The symptoms matched yours exactly, music played fine, but no voice transmission during calls. Initially, I tried basic troubleshooting: Checked all audio system settings, Performed infotainment system restart, Cleared error codes, Updated system software None of these fixed the issue. The workshop diagnosed a faulty microphone module that also affected the noise cancellation system. The complete repair included: Replacing the microphone unit, Updating control modules, Testing all voice-dependent functions Total cost was 815€ including diagnostic time and parts. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Have you performed any system updates recently? Does the issue persist after a complete system restart? Are there any visible error codes? Did this start suddenly or gradually? This would help determine if you're facing the same underlying issue or something different.

Just had my 62691km service last week, and thanks for all the detailed suggestions. After trying a complete system restart and checking for error codes, my Bluetooth issue persists exactly as described. Beyond the speech recognition problems, the ambient noise during calls seems much worse than before when the system was working properly. The sound quality degradation matches what you experienced with the defective module. Will book a workshop appointment to check the microphone system since all the basic troubleshooting steps failed to resolve the audio system issues.

Thanks for the additional details about your Passat GTE Hybrid. The symptoms you describe after the service visit, especially the degraded ambient noise control, strongly align with what I experienced before getting my microphone repair done. One thing to note: After my initial repair, we discovered the audio input issues were also partially related to a loose connection in the overhead console where the microphone assembly connects. The workshop had to adjust the wiring to fully resolve the wireless connection problems. Since your car has similar mileage to when my issues occurred (around 60000km), and the problems started after a service, ask the workshop to specifically check: Microphone assembly connections, Overhead console wiring integrity, Ambient noise control module status, Audio system ground connections The complete fix should restore clear audio quality for calls and proper volume control across all functions. Based on the matching symptoms, you will likely need similar repairs to what I had done. Keep track of any new error codes that appear before the workshop visit, as this will help speed up their diagnostic process.

Thanks for the thorough feedback on the Passat GTE audio issues. The service department just called with their initial diagnosis and you were spot on, they found a damaged wire harness in the overhead console affecting the microphone system. The ambient noise module is also showing fault codes similar to your case. They estimate around 790€ for the complete microphone repair including: New wire harness, Microphone assembly replacement, Sound quality testing, Audio input calibration Going to authorize the work since all the wireless connection symptoms match your experience exactly. The service advisor confirmed this should fully restore the hands-free calling and voice command functions. Will report back once done to confirm if it fixes both the call audio and speech recognition problems. Really helpful to know about the loose connection issue you encountered, made me feel better about spending the money to get it properly diagnosed and repaired.
