Patrol preheating lamp issue

I'm having a weird issue with my 2006 Nissan Patrol diesel. The preheating lamp won't switch off, and the check engine light is now on too! Plus, I'm seeing some smoke when I accelerate. It's got 172344 km on the clock. I've had a quick look and I think the cable or plug connection for the preheating control unit might be defective. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

I have a Patrol too. I had almost the same problem a while back! Preheating lamp staying on, engine light...sounded expensive! Did you notice any difference in how the engine starts, especially when it's cold?

Yeah, starts a bit rougher when cold. What was the cause when you had the same problem? I'm trying to figure out if it's something I can tackle myself or if it's workshop-only.

Mine ended up being the preheating control unit itself. I tried checking the connections as you suggested, but no luck. Bit beyond my skills, so I took it to a workshop. Cost me around 95€ for them to sort it.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like I should probably bite the bullet and take it to a workshop. At least I have an idea of what to expect cost-wise. Cheers!
