Electrical connections? Where exactly are those and what am I looking for? I'm no mechanic, so keep it simple!

Yeah, on my Megane it was a loose plug on one of the injectors. Caused all sorts of mayhem. But honestly, messing with fuel injection on a diesel is a pain. If you're not confident, it's probably best to get a pro to look at it. Could save you a lot of hassle in the long run.

Took your advice and went to a garage. Turns out it WAS a dodgy connection to an injector, just like you said. New plug and a bit of wiring fixed it. Cost 95€. Running like a dream now!

Sounds rough! I had a similar problem with my old Renault Megane, also diesel. Symptoms were almost identical - terrible fuel consumption, felt like half the horses had bolted, and a cloud of soot every time I accelerated. Did you check the electrical connections to the injectors?
