Peugeot 1007 Gear Shift Indicator Failure

Help! My 2006 Peugeot 1007 diesel's gear shift indicator is totally dead. Can't select gears, the automatic transmission is shifting like crazy, slipping, and making terrible grinding noises. The error memory is full, and the gear selection display is blank. Mileage is only 34700 km! Could this be the control unit like I suspect?

Summary of the thread

A 2006 Peugeot 1007 diesel is experiencing a complete failure of the gear shift indicator, causing erratic automatic transmission behavior, including slipping and grinding noises. The issue is suspected to be related to a defective control unit, as confirmed by another owner with similar symptoms. The recommended solution is to have the control unit checked and potentially replaced at a professional workshop.

Sounds familiar... I had similar weirdness with my 1007’s gear selector. Is it throwing any specific error codes?

Error codes? I didn't write them down, unfortunately. But was it the same symptoms? Dead gear indicator in the speedometer?

Yep, the exact same symptoms, including the blank display. It was indeed a defective control unit. Bit of a nightmare. Best get it checked at a proper workshop.

Thanks. Took it to a shop and you were spot on. Control unit's fried. Quoted 1000€ for the repair. Ouch!
