Peugeot 1007 Transmission Fault

Having trouble with my 2009 Peugeot 1007, gasoline engine, at 275832 km. The engine warning light keeps appearing, sometimes the transmission warning light too. Codes point to a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. Gearbox goes into emergency mode, shifting gets really rough, almost slipping with a grinding noise sometimes. Could a low gearbox oil level be the cause? Anyone experienced this?

I had something similar happen with my Peugeot 1007. No grinding noise, but the slipping and warning lights were there. Did you check your gearbox oil level yet? That was the first thing my mechanic suggested. Could save you a headache!

Thanks! No, I haven't checked the oil level yet. Not sure where to begin. Is it straightforward, or best left to a professional? Any tips or things to watch out for?

Checking the level isn't too bad if you're comfortable under the car. But if you're not familiar with transmissions, get a shop to look. Could be other issues. For me, the low oil level was a symptom of a bigger leak. Better safe than sorry with automatic transmissions, they're expensive!

Appreciate the advice. The gearbox oil level was indeed too low. They topped it up and replaced the faulty temperature sensor. Cost me 365€ all in. Runs like a charm now!
