Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the gearbox oil level. To be honest, I didn't even know where to find it on this car! Is it easy to check, or will I need special tools? Also, is it something I can top up myself, or is it best left to a mechanic?

It can be a bit fiddly depending on the car. On my Megane, the fill point was awkwardly placed. If you're not confident, it's probably best to get it checked at a workshop. In my case, the low oil level was causing all sorts of weird issues. It might save you from replacing the sensor unnecessarily. I ended up spending 300€ for new oil and labour.

Thanks so much for the advice! I took it to a local garage, and you were spot on. The gearbox oil was indeed very low. They topped it up, cleared the error code, and so far, so good! The total cost was 365€, which is still a lot less than a new transmission! I really appreciate you pointing me in the right direction.

That sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Renault Megane, although it was a petrol engine. Error code pointed to the transmission sensor as well. Have you checked the gearbox oil level? If it's too low, the sensor might be giving false readings. It's like trying to measure the water level in a nearly empty glass.
