Peugeot 1007 VANOS Solenoid Fault

My 2008 Peugeot 1007 diesel has a check engine light and dreadful fuel consumption. I scanned it, and it's flagging something with the inlet VANOS mechanics. I think it could be a dodgy camshaft solenoid valve or a power supply issue. The car has 220309 km on the clock. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm worried it might be oil sludge related, as I sometimes feel like I have low power...

I had a similar issue on my Peugeot 1007. Check the VANOS solenoid valve first. It's a common problem and can cause those symptoms. Could also be related to the variable timing. When you say "something with the inlet VANOS mechanics" what exactly does the error code say?

The error code I'm getting is P0011 - "A" Camshaft Position - Timing Over-Advanced or System Performance (Bank 1). Does that sound like the same issue you had? Is it something that I can tackle myself, or am I better off taking it to a garage? I'm just concerned about potential timing chain issues arising from this...

Yes, P0011 sounds very familiar. Given that you're seeing that specific code, and you are concerned about potential timing chain issues, I would strongly advise against trying to fix it yourself unless you are very experienced with engine timing. Variable timing issues can be tricky and if you get it wrong you could cause serious engine damage. Taking it to a trusted workshop is probably the safest bet in this scenario.

Appreciate the advice, you've confirmed my suspicions. I'll book it in with a local garage ASAP and brace myself for the bill! It was indeed a faulty VANOS solenoid valve, and the garage quoted me 250€ for the repair. Thanks again!
