Peugeot 106 Brake Lights Failure

Evening. My 2002 Peugeot 106, gasoline engine, has some weirdness. The brake lights aren't working, and the dash is lighting up with error messages. It's showing a bad brake light switch. Mileage is 47017 km. I can't imagine the switch is actually faulty. Any thoughts?

Sounds annoying! When did you last work on it, and what exactly did you do? Sometimes even a seemingly unrelated job can knock something loose or cause a temporary issue. Double-check the connections to the brake light switch itself. Is it plugged in properly?

Cheers. I was fiddling with the wiring to the rear lights last week, installing a new bulb in the tail light. Is it possible I damaged something there? Where exactly is the brake light switch located? I'll have a look tomorrow.

Okay, the rear light work is a good clue. It's definitely possible you disturbed something. The brake light switch is usually located near the brake pedal, under the dash. Trace the wires from the brake lights back, and you should find it. But honestly, given the error codes and the symptoms, it's probably a brake switch issue, or wiring to it, and it might be best to have a professional take a quick look.

Thanks. I had another look at the switch this morning. Turns out it was just a loose connection. Gave it a wiggle, and everything is working fine now. Error message is gone. I cleared the error memory. Repair cost: 0€. Should've checked that first!
