Peugeot 106 Idle Air Control Valve Issue
Summary of the thread
A Peugeot 106 from 2001 is experiencing engine stalling at idle, with a check engine light indicating an issue with the idle air control (IAC) valve. The suspected cause is a contaminated intake. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by cleaning the intake manifold and replacing the IAC valve. The recommended solution is to have the intake professionally cleaned and the valve replaced.

Gunked up intake makes sense. Not particularly difficult to diagnose, no. What was the eventual fix for your Astra?

Right, turns out the intake was heavily contaminated, just like you suspected. I tried cleaning it myself with some spray cleaner at first, but that didn’t really solve the problem. In the end, I had to take it to a workshop to properly clean the intake manifold and replace the valve. Best bet is to go to the workshop.

Appreciate the info. Confirmed, heavily contaminated intake. Ended up costing 425€ to clean everything and replace the IAC valve.

Oh, that sounds familiar! I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, although it was a bit older. It would just die at stop lights. The mechanic mentioned something about the idle air control valve getting gunked up. Was it difficult to diagnose?
