Thanks for the quick reply! Battery cable connections, huh? I did give them a quick look, but maybe I wasn't thorough enough. What exactly should I be looking for? And could that really stop the engine from starting completely?

Visually inspect the connections for any signs of corrosion – a white or bluish powder – which can impede electrical flow. Ensure the terminals are securely fastened; even a slightly loose connection can prevent sufficient current from reaching the starter motor. Given the age of the vehicle, it might be prudent to consult a qualified technician for a comprehensive diagnosis.

You were spot on! It WAS the battery cable connections. Took it to a local workshop, they cleaned everything up and tightened the connections. Cost me 155€, but it's running again! Thanks so much for the advice!

The symptoms you describe suggest a potential electrical issue. Have you inspected the battery cable connections for corrosion or looseness? A poor connection can prevent the engine from starting, even if the battery itself has sufficient charge. This would be the easiest aspect to assess initially.
