Peugeot 108 Active hood fault and airbag warning

Hi, I've got a 2018 Peugeot 108 with a gasoline engine and a weird problem. The on-board computer keeps showing "Active hood fault". Also, the airbag warning light is on. I checked the error memory, and it has a stored error. I even noticed the spring actuators seem to be triggering for no reason. Has anyone experienced this?

I had a similar issue with my 108. That "Active hood fault" message is related to the pedestrian safety system. It's designed to pop the hood up slightly in an impact to create more space between the hood and the engine, reducing injury to a pedestrian. The spring actuators you mention are part of that system. Do you know if the error code mentions anything about the impact sensor?

Impact sensor, huh? I didn't know that. So, is the impact sensor the same as the acceleration sensor? I've seen that mentioned in some places online.

Yes, acceleration sensor and impact sensor are often used interchangeably in this context. If the system thinks there's been an impact even a small one, or a false reading, it will trigger the actuators. Given all your symptoms – the warning light, the fault message, and the actuator triggering – it’s very likely a defective sensor. I'd suggest getting it checked at a workshop to be sure. Continuing to drive the car could be unsafe if the system deploys unexpectedly.

Thanks a lot for your help! It was indeed the acceleration sensor. The workshop confirmed it, and they replaced it. Cost me 315€, but at least the problem is solved.
