Regarding the airflow sensors, would a diagnostic tool typically pinpoint such a sensor issue, or is further investigation required beyond reading the error codes?

A diagnostic tool should pick up on a faulty airflow sensor, but sometimes the readings are just slightly off, which the ECU interprets as a different issue. It's worth checking the live data from the sensor to see if it's within the normal range. However, with the drift compensation error, injectors are the prime suspect. I strongly recommend getting it checked at a workshop.

The diagnostic pointed to a defective injection valve. The repair, including parts and labor, was 515€. The engine is now running smoothly again.

Rough running and a drift compensation error? Sounds like you might be on the right track with the injectors. Has the car's performance changed at all? Any noticeable decrease in fuel economy? You might also want to check your airflow sensors; sometimes a bad reading there can throw things off, especially with modern diesels.
