Peugeot 206 electronic parking brake failure

Electronic parking brake on my 2012 Peugeot 206 diesel has completely stopped working! Error memory registered a fault, and the warning light is on. Could this be a simple glitch, or is it something more serious? I suspect a defective electric motor in the brake calliper. What could be the cause?

I had a similar problem with my 206. Electronic handbrake went kaput, and the warning light was on. Did you check the brake switch? Sometimes it's just that. Is the error message specific or more generic?

Thank you for the reply! I did not check the brake switch, I'll give it a try. The error message is not very specific, unfortunately. Did replacing the brake switch solve your issue, or was there more to it?

No, the brake switch wasn't the culprit in my case. Sadly, I had to take it to a workshop, and they confirmed it was indeed the electric motor in the calliper. Best to get brake diagnostics done.

Alright, I appreciate the insight! I'll schedule an appointment with a trusted mechanic for brake control diagnostics. Turns out you were right: the electric motor was defective. Repair cost me 505€. Thanks again!
