Peugeot 206 losing power warning light

Hey, I'm having a nightmare with my 2007 Peugeot 206, diesel engine. It's done 177467 km. The warning light is on, and it feels like I'm driving with half the engine power! Plus, when I put my foot down, it's like a smoke machine back there, and the exhaust smells awful. I'm thinking it could be something to do with the diesel particulate filter... the computer says exhaust pressure is too low. Any ideas?

I had something similar on my 206 diesel. Reduced power and a warning light. Have you checked the exhaust back pressure sensor? That was the culprit for me.

Really? The exhaust back pressure sensor? Where is that even located, and is it something I could check myself before taking it to a garage?

Yeah, that's what it was. Honestly, I wouldn't advise messing with it yourself unless you really know what you're doing. It's part of the exhaust system and you could easily damage something. I'd get it checked out by a professional. Cost me around 245€ all in.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I took it to a local garage, and you were spot on – it was the exhaust back pressure sensor. They replaced it, and it's running like new again. Saved me a lot of guesswork!
