Peugeot 206 low power and smoke

Having trouble with my 2015 Peugeot 206 diesel. It's got about 93k km on it. Recently, the engine power has been really low, and the check engine light keeps popping up. When I try to accelerate, there's a lot of smoke and the engine runs really rough. Also, my fuel consumption seems higher, and the car jerks a bit when accelerating, like it’s struggling. I can also hear a loud hissing sound when accelerating. After doing some digging online, it sounds like it might be the EGR valve? Has anyone else experienced something similar?

I had similar symptoms on my 206. Could very well be a defective or jammed EGR valve. Did you check the error code?

Thanks for the quick reply! No, I haven't checked the error code yet. I don't have a code reader myself. Was it definitely the EGR valve in your case? And if so, was it a costly repair?

A defective EGR valve was the root cause, yes. Given the symptoms, getting the error code read by a professional workshop is advisable before proceeding with any repairs. It is likely the EGR valve but better to be sure.

Thanks a lot for your help! I'll take it to a workshop to get the error code checked. I'll let you know what happens. Just got a quote for 355€ for the repair!
