Thanks! I haven't checked the voltage, but it does seem to crank a little slower in the mornings. Would that really stop the rear window heating coil from working completely?

Yes, absolutely. The rear window and windshield heating are power hungry. If the battery is weak, the car's ECU might disable them to prioritize other systems. Honestly, get the battery tested by a professional. A proper diagnosis can save you from chasing ghosts. If it is that, you might save time and money and just replace the battery.

Cheers for the advice! I took it to a local garage as suggested, and they confirmed the battery was goosed. New battery fitted, and the rear window is working again, total bill came to 290€. Thanks again!

This sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my 206 (petrol, though). Check your battery. A heavily discharged or defective battery often causes this type of issue due to the high current draw of the thermal window. Have you checked your battery's voltage lately?
