Peugeot 206 rear window heating issue

Hi, I've got a 2005 Peugeot 206 diesel with nearly 140,000 km on the clock. The rear window heating isn't working. I'm getting an error stored, and the windshield heating seems weaker than usual too. Any ideas? I'm not really clued up on car electrics.

This sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my 206 (petrol, though). Check your battery. A heavily discharged or defective battery often causes this type of issue due to the high current draw of the thermal window. Have you checked your battery's voltage lately?

Thanks! I haven't checked the voltage, but it does seem to crank a little slower in the mornings. Would that really stop the rear window heating coil from working completely?

Yes, absolutely. The rear window and windshield heating are power hungry. If the battery is weak, the car's ECU might disable them to prioritize other systems. Honestly, get the battery tested by a professional. A proper diagnosis can save you from chasing ghosts. If it is that, you might save time and money and just replace the battery.

Cheers for the advice! I took it to a local garage as suggested, and they confirmed the battery was goosed. New battery fitted, and the rear window is working again, total bill came to 290€. Thanks again!
