Peugeot 206 rough running exhaust leak
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Peugeot 206 is experiencing rough running, a check engine light, and a noticeable exhaust leak with a strong smell. The initial suspicion is a defective lambda sensor. A similar case suggested checking the exhaust pipe, DEF fluid, EGR valve, or oxygen sensor. The issue was confirmed to be the lambda sensor and a minor exhaust leak, which was resolved at a cost of 375€.

Thanks for the reply. When you say 'similar', was yours actually leaking exhaust too, along with the rough running? And did you also get the strong exhaust smell? I've visually checked the exhaust pipe for obvious holes, but nothing so far.

Yeah, I remember a slight exhaust smell and the garage said there was a small leak, nothing major though. Honestly, with all those symptoms, and considering I'm no expert, I'd get it to a workshop if I were you. It's probably best to get it properly diagnosed.

Appreciate the advice. It seems you were spot on. Turns out it was indeed the lambda sensor, plus a small exhaust leak. Cost me 375€ to sort out. Thanks again!

I had similar on my Peugeot 206, although it was a while ago now. Engine light came on and it was running rough. Have you checked the usual suspects like the DEF fluid or exhaust pipe? Could also be the EGR valve or even the oxygen sensor, though you mentioned the lambda sensor.
