Peugeot 207 Coolant Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2008 Peugeot 207 diesel is experiencing coolant loss, with the check engine light indicating a low coolant level. Despite topping off the coolant and checking for obvious leaks, the issue persists. Potential causes include a faulty cooling fan leading to overheating and coolant loss through the overflow, or a small, undetected leak. A pressure test is suggested to identify any hidden leaks, which ultimately reveals a minor leak in a radiator hose, resolving the problem.

Thanks for the tip about the fan! I'll definitely give that a look. The coolant looks relatively clean, no obvious signs of oil or discoloration. But now that you mention the cooling fan, how would a faulty fan directly lead to coolant loss, assuming there are no other leaks?

Okay, clean coolant is a good sign. The fan issue can indirectly lead to coolant loss. If the engine overheats because the fan isn't working properly, the increased pressure in the cooling system can force coolant out through the overflow valve. If you've checked everything else, and the level keeps dropping, it might be worth getting a pressure test done on the cooling system. That would help pinpoint any small leaks you might be missing. Otherwise, I'd recommend visiting the workshop.

Thanks a lot for the advice! You were right about the pressure test. Took it to a local mechanic, and they found a tiny leak in one of the radiator hoses that I completely missed. Cost me 52€ to get it sorted - a lot cheaper than a head gasket replacement! Appreciate the help!

Hey, I had a similar problem with my 207! Coolant disappearing, engine light on... sounds familiar. Have you checked the cooling fan? Sometimes a faulty fan can cause the engine to overheat, leading to coolant loss through the overflow. Also, what does the coolant itself look like? Is it nice and clean, or does it look a bit murky or oily?
