Peugeot 207 DPF Issue

My 2009 Peugeot 207 diesel is having seriously reduced engine power and smoking badly when I accelerate. It has 285k on the clock. Thinking it's the DPF, anyone had similar?

I had a similar issue with my old Volvo V50. Symptoms were much the same, although I never saw any smoke. The engine light was on, and diagnostics pointed to excessive backpressure in the exhaust system. I'd suggest checking your fuel efficiency too; mine plummeted before I got it sorted.

Cheers for the input! Excessive backpressure, eh? How did you confirm that was the issue? I've got an engine light too, but I'm hesitant to start chucking money at it without being sure. Did you try forcing a regeneration cycle? I've heard mixed things about those.

After the initial diagnostics, a mechanic confirmed the backpressure with readings from the exhaust system. I did attempt a forced regeneration, but it didn't solve the problem. Ultimately, the DPF was shot, so I had to replace it. I'd strongly advise getting yours properly checked at a reputable workshop.

You were spot on. Took it to a garage, and they confirmed it – knackered DPF. Bill came to a hefty 1550€, but at least it's running like a champ again. Thanks for the help!
