Peugeot 207 Oxygen Sensor Fault

I have a 2010 Peugeot 207 diesel with 298611 km. The check engine light is on, and fuel consumption has increased. Error memory points to the oxygen sensor. I've checked the sensor and wiring, suspecting a cable or plug issue. Has anyone else had exhaust system issues with their 207? Could the O2 sensor be causing the increased air-fuel ratio, or should I consider the catalytic converter first?

I had a similar issue with my 207: check engine light, higher fuel consumption... It was related to the O2 sensor. Did you check the sensor's readings with an OBD2 scanner to see if it's providing unusual data? That might help narrow down a sensor malfunction versus a wiring problem.

Thanks. Yes, I used an OBD2 scanner, and it showed a fault related to the oxygen sensor, but the reading seemed plausible at the time. Could the readings be misleading? What specific symptoms did you observe, and how did you resolve the increased fuel consumption? Was it really necessary to change the sensor, or was the error triggered by the connector?

In my case, the readings were intermittent. Sometimes plausible, other times completely off. The garage confirmed the sensor was faulty and replaced it. Given your mileage and the error code, I suspect yours is just old and needs replacing. I suggest a workshop diagnosis before buying parts. It cost me around 100€.

I got a professional diagnosis at a local workshop. They confirmed the oxygen sensor was the issue, tracing it to a defective plug connection. The repair, including parts and labor, was 95€. The check engine light is now off, the error is gone, and my fuel economy is back to normal. Thanks for the help!
