Peugeot 207 Turbo Whistle and Power Loss

I'm experiencing a perplexing issue with my 2012 Peugeot 207 diesel. The check engine light illuminates intermittently, accompanied by a noticeable reduction in engine power and poor engine response. Furthermore, the engine occasionally stalls at idle, and I have observed higher fuel consumption. I've also noticed a distinct whistling noise, evolving into a loud hissing sound upon acceleration. The vehicle has 260546 km on the clock. Could this be related to a fault in the turbocharger or perhaps the boost pressure system?

Summary of the thread

The conversation revolves around a 2012 Peugeot 207 diesel experiencing intermittent check engine light, power loss, poor engine response, stalling, increased fuel consumption, and a whistling noise that turns into a hissing sound during acceleration. These symptoms suggest potential issues with the turbocharger or boost pressure system. Possible causes include leaks in the intercooler pipes, a faulty MAP sensor, or a defective wastegate valve. The recommended solution is to have a professional mechanic inspect and possibly repair or replace the turbocharger components.

Hey there! Sounds frustrating. I've got a 207 too, and those symptoms are ringing a bell. That whistling and hissing definitely points to something with the turbo. Have you checked for any obvious leaks in the intercooler pipes? Sometimes a split hose can cause those symptoms. Also, have you looked at the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor? A faulty one can mess with the boost control.

Thank you for your prompt response. I have not yet inspected the intercooler pipes or the MAP sensor. Could a defect in the wastegate valve also produce similar symptoms, particularly the whistling noise and reduced power? What are your thoughts on this?

Absolutely! A dodgy wastegate valve could definitely be the culprit. If it's stuck open, you'll lose boost and hear that whistling. I'd say, with all those signs, it's time to get it checked by a professional. Might save you a lot of headache in the long run. Probably looking at a turbo or wastegate replacement, unfortunately. Brace yourself...

I appreciate your insights. I will consult a trusted mechanic to assess the wastegate valve and the broader turbocharger system. It appears a visit to the workshop is unavoidable. I suspect the repair cost might be around 860€. Thank you once again for your assistance.
