Peugeot 208 Crankshaft Camshaft Reference Value Issue

I'm writing to ask about a potential issue with my 2019 Peugeot 208 gasoline engine. It has 246399 km. The check engine light is on, and I've noticed reduced engine power, poor engine response, and increased fuel consumption. Diagnostics say there's a 'Crankshaft to Camshaft Reference Value' issue. I suspect a defective crankshaft sensor. Has anyone else had this?

I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, though the fault code was slightly different. The symptoms sound very familiar. Did you check the timing belt or timing chain? A stretched or worn timing component can cause these reference value errors.

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't checked the timing belt yet. Could a faulty timing belt cause all those symptoms at once? What caused the issue with your Astra?

In my case, it was a worn timing chain. This caused the camshaft and crankshaft to be out of sync. It's worth getting it checked by a workshop; it could be that the timing belt is not correctly tensioned, but it could also be the crankshaft sensor itself.

I appreciate the information. I took it to the workshop, and as suspected, the crankshaft sensor was defective. The final repair cost was 340€. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
