Interesting! I hadn't considered the battery sensor. Where is that located, and is it something I could test myself with a multimeter, or is it best left to the professionals? I don't want to make things worse!

On my BMW it was connected to the negative terminal of the battery. It's a small electronic module. Testing it is tricky without the proper diagnostic tools. I would advise going to a workshop.

I took your advice and brought it to my local mechanic. Turns out you were spot on – it was a defective battery sensor! They replaced it for 315€. The error message is gone, and everything seems to be running smoothly again. I really appreciate your help!

I had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 series. Same symptoms: low battery warnings and all. The problem turned out to be a defective battery sensor. The sensor was incorrectly reporting the battery's state of charge, causing the car to undercharge the battery. Check your battery sensor.
