Peugeot 208 electrical issue

I'm experiencing an electrical issue with my 2022 Peugeot 208 (gasoline engine) with 169095 km. I'm getting an error message, and the lights flicker. The engine cranks weakly, and the OBD2 reader shows a low voltage error. The battery terminals are clean and tight. Could this be a failing battery or a parasitic battery drain?

I had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 series. Same symptoms: low battery warnings and all. The problem turned out to be a defective battery sensor. The sensor was incorrectly reporting the battery's state of charge, causing the car to undercharge the battery. Check your battery sensor.

Interesting! I hadn't considered the battery sensor. Where is that located, and is it something I could test myself with a multimeter, or is it best left to the professionals? I don't want to make things worse!

On my BMW it was connected to the negative terminal of the battery. It's a small electronic module. Testing it is tricky without the proper diagnostic tools. I would advise going to a workshop.

I took your advice and brought it to my local mechanic. Turns out you were spot on – it was a defective battery sensor! They replaced it for 315€. The error message is gone, and everything seems to be running smoothly again. I really appreciate your help!
