Peugeot 208 Ignition Problems

Alright Peugeot 208 posse, I'm about to hurl this 2016 diesel into a ravine! 56k on the clock and I'm having straight-up ignition Armageddon. The engine refuses to start half the time, then sometimes it just dies mid-drive! And when it does run, it sounds like a bag of spanners. I've checked the usual suspects – battery's solid, starter motor seems fine. Is there a fuse for the ignition circuit on these things that loves to give up the ghost? I'm losing my mind (and my faith in French engineering!).

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Peugeot 208 diesel is experiencing ignition problems, with the engine failing to start or dying mid-drive. The battery and starter motor appear fine, leading to speculation about a faulty ignition circuit fuse. After considering potential issues like the ignition coil or immobilizer, a diagnostic check reveals a faulty fuse, which is replaced to resolve the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I feel your pain! Had similar gremlins with my 208 – thought I was going insane too. Sounds like classic ignition key/immobilizer shenanigans. Does the dashboard light up normally when you turn the key, or does it do anything weird? Like, flashing or staying dark? Could be the ignition coil getting wonky too.

Cheers for the reply! Yeah, the dashboard lights up like normal when I turn the key – no flashing or anything obviously mental. But the engine just cranks and cranks, or sometimes doesn't even bother cranking at all. You reckon it's the ignition coil then? Did yours have the same symptoms before you fixed it?

Okay, dash lights normal is...interesting. Could still be a dodgy immobilizer playing up even if the lights are behaving. To be honest, those symptoms sound too erratic for just a coil. I'd get it plugged into a diagnostic machine, pronto. Probably worth getting it to a decent workshop - could be car electronics playing up

You're a legend! Diagnostic machine it is! Turns out it was a faulty fuse. Replaced it for 52€. Really appreciate the insights - saved me potentially chasing down some seriously expensive ghosts in the machine!
