Peugeot 208 Jerky Acceleration Check Engine Light

Hey, I'm having some serious issues with my 2017 Peugeot 208 diesel. It's got about 132050 km on it. Lately, it's been jerking like crazy when I try to accelerate, and the check engine light keeps popping on. I scanned it and there's an error stored, but I can't figure out what it means. Plus, the engine power feels way down, and sometimes it even stalls when I'm idling. The engine also runs rough, and I've noticed a strong exhaust smell recently. Could it be the intake manifold? I'm kind of freaking out because I don't know much about cars, but I read online that a vacuum leak could cause these problems. Has anyone else experienced this?

That sounds rough! I had similar issues with my Peugeot 208 (although mine's a bit older). Jerky acceleration and the engine light were the first signs. Does it feel like it's struggling to get air? Could be a vacuum leak like you said. I'm no expert either, but have you checked for any obvious cracks or damage around the air intake? What does the error code say? Knowing that might point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the reply! Yeah, it definitely feels like it's not getting enough air sometimes. I took a quick look around the air intake, but honestly, I wouldn't know a crack if it bit me! Where exactly should I be looking, and what am I looking for? I don't have the error code right now, but is there anything else obvious I could check myself before taking it to a mechanic?

Alright, so without the error code, it's tricky to say for sure. But if you're feeling a loss of power and a rough idle, and you suspect a vacuum leak, it could very well be your intake manifold. It's common for them to leak due to scorching over time. Honestly, based on your symptoms, I'd say save yourself the headache and just take it to a workshop. They'll be able to properly diagnose it and give you a definite answer.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. I appreciate the advice! I bit the bullet and took it to the mechanic. Turns out the intake manifold was indeed defective and leaking like crazy. The scorching was the culprit, just like you suspected. Cost me 1180€ to get it fixed, but at least it's running smoothly again. Thanks again for the help!
