Peugeot 208 Oil Pressure Problem

My 2017 Peugeot 208 (gasoline engine) is giving me fits. At 158359 km, the oil pressure warning lamp keeps lighting up, and there's this awful mechanical noise coming from the engine. Could it be something simple, or am I looking at something major?

I had a similar scare with my 208. Low oil pressure can be nasty. Have you checked for any obvious oil leakage? When was the last oil change? It could also be a faulty oil pressure sensor, but the noises don't sound good. What oil viscosity are you using?

Thanks for the quick reply! No visible oil leakage that I can see. The last oil change was maybe 8000 km ago. I'm using 5W-30 oil. What did the oil pressure problem turn out to be with your 208? Those noises are really making me nervous.

Mine turned out to be a defect in the oil pump after similar symptoms. Those noises are likely engine bearings getting starved of oil. Seriously, I'd stop driving it immediately and get it to a workshop. It's not going to get better on its own, and you might cause irreparable damage.

Thanks a million for the advice! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. It was the oil pump! Repair cost me 755€, but at least the engine is still in one piece. I really appreciate the help; you saved me from making a costly mistake!
