Peugeot 208 Overheating Coolant Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Peugeot 208 diesel was experiencing engine overheating, coolant loss, and a check engine light, with suspicion of a control unit communication error. The issue was traced to a faulty plug connection on the engine control unit, which was causing incorrect data transmission and system mismanagement. The solution involved cleaning the contacts and replacing a damaged wiring section, resolving the problem effectively.

Yeah, I did pull the codes, and it's flagging a communication fault related to one of the control modules. Hence my suspicion. But with the overheating and coolant loss, I'm wondering if it's a faulty sensor providing incorrect data to the ECU, causing it to mismanage something and over-pressurize the system. Thoughts?

Okay, a specific communication fault code changes things. If it's a legit code, and you're getting overheating and coolant loss too, it sounds like you could have a defective plug connection on the component. I'd advise you to take it to the workshop. They will probably find the error faster.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a local garage, and you were spot on. It was indeed a faulty plug connection on the engine control unit. They cleaned the contacts and replaced a short section of damaged wiring. Total cost was 95€ Appreciate the help!

Overheating AND a check engine light? That sounds rough. Have you had the codes read? A generic OBD2 reader might give you a clue, even if it's just a starting point. I'm a bit skeptical about a control unit error causing ALL those issues, but hey, stranger things have happened.
