Peugeot 3008 Oil Pressure Warning and Engine Noise
Summary of the thread
A Peugeot 3008 owner reported an intermittent oil pressure warning light and loud mechanical noises from the engine, despite the oil level appearing normal. This could indicate a serious issue, potentially a faulty oil pump or a clogged oil filter. The problem was confirmed to be a defective oil pump, which was replaced to prevent further engine damage. Immediate attention to such symptoms is crucial to avoid lasting harm to the engine.

Thanks for the quick reply! No, I haven't checked the oil filter yet, but I will. However, if it's indeed the oil pump like you suspect, what kind of damage could this low pressure cause?

Well, prolonged low oil pressure is BAD. It can lead to premature wear on engine bearings and other critical components. Since you're already hearing mechanical noises, I'd advise against driving it much. I ended up having to get my oil pump replaced, and even then, there was some lingering damage. I'd get it to a reputable workshop ASAP!

Thank you very much for your advice. I took it to the workshop and they confirmed the oil pump was defective. The repair cost was 755€. Hopefully, no lasting damage was done. Appreciate the help!

Sounds eerily familiar! I had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 series. Same symptoms: oil pressure light and engine noise. For me, it was a defect in the oil pump. Have you checked the oil filter? A clogged filter can sometimes cause low pressure, but the noise suggests something more significant.
