Peugeot 3008 VANOS Fault

Hi, I'm having some trouble with my 2009 Peugeot 3008, gasoline engine, mileage 226562 km. The check engine light keeps popping on, and I've noticed significantly higher fuel consumption lately. I've scanned the codes and it points to a fault in the inlet VANOS mechanics. From what I've gathered, it's likely a defect in one of the camshaft solenoid valves or maybe the power supply to it. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm trying to get a handle on how serious this could be. I hope it's not related to oil sludge or the timing chain. Any advice on where to start would be great before I go to a mechanic.

Hey! I had something similar happen with my Peugeot 3008. Also the check engine light constantly being on. It ended up also being something with the VANOS. Could be a defective VANOS solenoid. Those solenoids control the oil flow to the VANOS unit, and control the timing of the inlet camshaft. If they aren't working correctly, it can cause the issues you are experiencing. Has the oil been changed regularly? Old engine oil can cause sludge buildup and restrict oil flow. It happened to me.

Interesting! So, when you say similar, was it the same error code pointing to the inlet camshaft? And did it also impact your fuel consumption? I've been pretty regular with oil changes, but it's a good point about potential sludge. Did you end up replacing the solenoid yourself, or did you take it to a mechanic? What was the final diagnosis in your case?

Yeah, same error code. Fuel consumption definitely took a hit as well. It felt like the engine was breathing through a straw. I wasn't brave enough to tackle it myself. I took it to a local mechanic because I wasn't sure if it involved the timing chain. He was able to confirm the issue. In my case, the mechanic suggested I go to the workshop to have it fixed.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like I'm on the right track then. I took it to the mechanic, and you were right, it was the camshaft solenoid valve. The total repair cost was around 250€. Appreciate you sharing your experience!
