Peugeot 301 Automatic Transmission Problems

My 2013 diesel 301 (175780 km) is throwing a fit. The gear shift indicator on the dash is completely dead, and I can't engage any gears. The automatic transmission is acting like it's possessed – slipping, shifting poorly, making awful grinding noises. There's also an error code stored, so I'm guessing it's more than just a loose wire. I suspect a defective control unit. Anyone else encountered this?

I had something similar happen with my 301. Gear selection became erratic, and the display went haywire. Did you check the transmission fluid level? Although, honestly, with those symptoms, it does sound like something more serious than just low fluid.

Fluid level is fine, sadly. When you say 'similar,' was it exactly the same symptoms? Like, indicator dead and impossible to shift? Was it also diagnosed as a control unit issue, and if so, what was the fix?

Yep, pretty much identical. Indicator blank, shifting all over the place. In my case, the workshop confirmed a faulty control unit. They replaced it, and that sorted it. Prepare for a potentially hefty bill though.

Ouch, that's what I feared. Thanks for confirming. I'll brace myself and book it in. It's a known issue; control unit replacement cost me around 1000€, but at least it's resolved.
