Peugeot 307 Air Conditioning Failure

Air conditioning on my 2001 Peugeot 307 diesel has completely failed. No cold air, AC doesn't switch on, and there's a warning light on the speedometer. My local garage says there's an error stored and suspects refrigerant compressor failure, or potentially the air conditioning control unit. Anyone else had this? Mileage is at 174277 km. So frustrating!

I had a similar problem with my Peugeot 307 (not sure on the year). The symptoms you describe are very similar to what I experienced. Have you checked for any obvious refrigerant leaks? That was the first thing I looked for when my AC started acting up.

Thanks for the reply! I did a quick visual check, but didn't spot anything obvious. Where exactly did you look for the leak? Was it easy to see?

Well, in my case, the leak was near the compressor itself. I didn't spot it immediately, but after a closer inspection, I could see some oily residue. Given the error code and the symptoms, it might be worth taking it to a workshop for a proper diagnosis. I eventually had to replace the compressor and a few other bits. Cost me a pretty penny.

Appreciate the advice. I took it to a specialist, and you were spot on. Turns out the air conditioning control unit was defective, which led to refrigerant compressor failure. Total bill came to 980€, but at least it's fixed!
