Peugeot 307 preheating lamp issue
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Peugeot 307 diesel is experiencing issues with the preheating lamp staying on, accompanied by the check engine light and smoke during acceleration. The suspected cause is a defective preheating control unit, possibly due to a faulty cable or plug connection. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by replacing the relay for the preheating unit. Ultimately, the problem was confirmed to be the cable/plug connection to the preheating unit, which was repaired at a local garage.

Thanks for the suggestion. When you say glow plug light, do you mean it stayed on constantly, even after the engine was warm? Because that's what's happening here. What fixed your Astra? Was it just replacing the relay, or was there more to it?

Yes, the glow plug light stayed on constantly. Replacing the relay solved the problem on my Astra. Given the age of our cars, it's probably best to get it checked at a workshop to rule out any deeper electrical issues. But it does sound very similar.

Appreciate the insight. Turns out I was right. It was the cable/plug connection to the preheating unit. The repair cost 95€ at my local garage. Thanks again for the guidance!

Sounds frustrating. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, though the symptoms weren't exactly the same. My glow plug light stayed on, indicating a problem with the vehicle heater system. Have you checked the relay for the preheating unit? That was the problem in my case.
