Peugeot 308 AC failure

I'm having a perplexing issue with my 2022 Peugeot 308 Hybrid. The air conditioning has completely stopped working. It's not just that it's not very cold; it doesn't seem to switch on at all. I've checked the basic things like the temperature control settings and the AC button, but nothing seems to make a difference. I’ve also tried listening for the AC compressor kicking in when I press the AC button, but there's no change in engine noise or feel. The car has done 47551 km. Could this be a faulty AC relay or perhaps a refrigerant leak? Any ideas on what to check before I take it to a mechanic for AC diagnostics or AC maintenance?

Air conditioning problems can be quite frustrating. Based on your description, a few things could be at play. First, has the system been professionally checked for refrigerant leaks recently? If the refrigerant level is too low, the system will not engage to protect the compressor. Also, while you listened for the compressor, did you verify that the AC compressor clutch is engaging? Finally, it is possible a faulty AC relay, or even a faulty temperature control module, may be at fault. Can you confirm you have checked those?

Thanks for the quick response! Regarding your questions: I haven't had the system checked for refrigerant leaks recently, so that's a definite possibility. How can I verify that the AC compressor clutch is engaging? Where is the AC relay located, and how would I test it? I have no idea what a temperature control module is...

Without proper tools and knowledge, checking the AC compressor clutch and testing the AC relay can be difficult. Given the symptoms you've described, the age of your vehicle, and its mileage, it's quite possible there's a defect in individual valves in the air conditioning system. It might be time to consult a qualified technician for a proper diagnosis. I suggest you go to the workshop!

Thank you, I appreciate your advice. I've booked it in for diagnostics at the local garage. It turned out to be a defective valve within the AC unit. The repair cost me 1000€!
