Peugeot 4007 Check Engine Light VANOS Issue

I'm having a weird issue with my 2010 Peugeot 4007 diesel. The check engine light keeps coming on, and I've noticed higher fuel consumption lately. The car has 74264 km on the clock. I've read a bit about VANOS, particularly in BMWs, and I'm wondering if it could be related. Could this be a VANOS failure? I'm not feeling any significant low power though.

Summary of the thread

A 2010 Peugeot 4007 diesel exhibited a check engine light and increased fuel consumption, leading to concerns about a potential VANOS issue. The problem was suspected to be related to a faulty inlet VANOS, possibly due to a defect in the camshaft solenoid valves or a power supply issue. It was advised to seek professional diagnosis and repair, which confirmed the VANOS solenoid as the cause. After replacement, the check engine light was resolved, and fuel consumption returned to normal.

It could be the VANOS. The 'VANOS' refers to a variable valve timing system. In your Peugeot, with the check engine light and increased fuel consumption, a faulty inlet VANOS is plausible. It may be a defect in one of the camshaft solenoid valves, or power supply could be unavailable.

So, if it's the VANOS solenoid, is there a way to test it myself, or is this something I should leave to a professional? Is the power supply issue something easily checked, or does it require special equipment?

Testing the solenoid valve usually requires specific diagnostic tools. While checking the power supply might seem straightforward, without the proper knowledge, you risk causing further damage. Given the symptoms, a professional diagnosis is recommended. Expect a repair cost of around 250€.

I appreciate the advice. I took it to a workshop, and they confirmed it was indeed the VANOS solenoid. They replaced it, and the check engine light is now off, and my fuel consumption is back to normal. The repair cost was exactly as you predicted!
