Peugeot 4007 low brake fluid

I've got a 2009 Peugeot 4007, gasoline engine. The brake fluid level keeps dropping, triggering the warning light. The brake pedal also feels strange. It's only done 28817 km, so I'm puzzled. I checked the brake lines, but couldn't see any leaks. Could it be worn brakes?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my old Opel Astra, though it was a diesel. The brake fluid kept dropping, and the pedal felt weird, like it was spongy. Turned out the rear brake cylinders were leaking, but it was hard to spot at first because it was a slow leak. Have you checked the cylinders? It could also be the master cylinder, or even just really worn pads requiring more fluid to compensate.

Thanks! I wouldn't have expected to find users with similar problems, as the Opel Astra is very different. I haven't checked the brake cylinders myself. When you say spongy, do you mean it felt like there was air in the system, and did you also experience a warning light?

Exactly! Spongy is the perfect word. It felt like I was pressing on a sponge, and the braking power was less effective. And yes, the warning light was on constantly. Honestly, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. Brake issues are not something to mess with. They'll be able to properly diagnose the problem and fix it safely.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience and advice. I brought it to a reputable workshop today, and they confirmed worn brakes were the cause, costing 480€. I'm glad I asked for help, as I wouldn't have been able to diagnose that myself!
