Peugeot 4008 tailgate hall sensor fault
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Peugeot 4008 is experiencing a tailgate hall sensor fault, preventing the tailgate from opening completely. The issue may stem from a defect in the sensor's electrical circuit or a wiring fault. Recalibration might not resolve the problem if the sensor or wiring is damaged. It is recommended to have the sensor and wiring inspected by a qualified technician to ensure a proper diagnosis and avoid further complications.

I haven't tried recalibrating the sensor; I don't have the tools. Can I do that with a basic OBD2 reader, or do I need specialized equipment?

Recalibration isn't likely to fix it permanently if the sensor is defective or the wiring is damaged. A generic OBD2 reader might not work and could cause more problems. Get the sensor and wiring inspected by a qualified technician. That will ensure a correct diagnosis and prevent unintended consequences from DIY repairs.

Took it to the workshop as suggested. It was a faulty connection as suspected. Cost 95€ to fix. Thanks for the insight.

An intermittent or total failure of the automatic tailgate, with a stored error code for the hall sensor, suggests a defect in the sensor's electrical circuit. Visual inspection can miss things; the issue might be the sensor or a less visible wiring fault. Have you tried recalibrating the sensor? Sometimes that fixes sensor issues.
