Peugeot 4008 Torque Converter Issue

The diagnostic pointed specifically to the torque converter lock-up clutch. The exact code was P0741. I haven't checked the transmission fluid level yet. I wouldn't even know where to start. Could low fluid cause all these issues? Or is it more likely the converter is actually fried?

Given the diagnostic code and the symptoms you are experiencing, it appears the torque converter is indeed the primary source of the issue. While low transmission fluid can certainly cause shifting problems, the grinding noise and specific error code strongly suggest a converter failure. I strongly suggest taking the vehicle to a qualified transmission specialist or mechanic for a thorough inspection and repair. If it is like my case, you will get a hefty repair bill, mine was 2400€. Be cautious, and I hope this helps.

Thanks for confirming my fears! I appreciate the advice. I took it to a local garage, and they ran their own diagnostics. Turns out you were spot on – the torque converter is knackered. They quoted me 2120€ for a replacement, which is painful, but at least I know what the problem is now. Thanks again for your help!

Your description resembles an issue I encountered with my previous vehicle, a 2016 Opel Insignia. The symptoms you describe, particularly the slippage and grinding noises, suggest a problem within the automatic transmission system itself. Did the diagnostic specify the converter as the definitive source of the fault, or was it simply a flagged component? Have you checked the transmission fluid level?
