Peugeot 406 ABS Power Steering Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Peugeot 406 diesel was experiencing a low tire pressure warning, intermittent ABS lamp activation, steering wheel vibration, and power steering issues. Despite manually checking tire pressure, the problem persisted. It was suggested that a defective tire valve might be causing a slow pressure loss, triggering a chain reaction affecting the ABS and power steering systems. After replacing the faulty valve at a workshop, the issues were resolved.

Thank you for the swift response. I haven't specifically checked the valve. Is a defective valve really capable of causing all these other symptoms – the ABS and power steering issues as well?

Well, the low tire pressure warning can mess with the ABS system, which in turn affects the power steering due to how the car's computer interprets the signals. If the valve is leaking, even slowly, it'll trigger the whole chain reaction. You could try tightening the valve core, but honestly, if it's old, I'd just get it replaced. Maybe best to visit a workshop.

Much appreciated. I followed your suggestion and took it to a workshop. Turns out, it was indeed a defective valve in one of the tires. Replaced all four for 280€ and the problem is solved. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

Interesting. I had a similar issue on my 406. Tire pressure warning plus weird steering issues... Did you check the valve on the tire itself? It might be defective, leading to a slow pressure loss that your gauge isn't picking up immediately.
