Yeah, it could be that, now that you mention it! It feels like it is trying to regen and then failing. How did you eventually figure out what was wrong with your Astra? And how much did it end up costing you to fix?

In the end, it turned out to be a faulty exhaust back pressure sensor, just like you suspected. It was causing issues with the DPF readings and putting the engine into limp mode. Unless you have diagnostic tools, you're probably best off getting it checked at a workshop. They can pinpoint the issue quickly. Hopefully, it's something simple and relatively inexpensive to sort out.

Thanks for the insight! I took it to a local garage, and you were spot on. The diagnostic tool showed an error with the exhaust back pressure sensor, so I asked them to replace it. The new sensor cost 245€ with labor included, so I authorised the repair. Now it runs like new again. Thanks again for the help!

That sounds frustrating! I had almost the same symptoms on my old Vauxhall Astra diesel: warning light, power loss, and exhaust fumes. I initially suspected the DPF too. Does it feel like the car is trying to do a DPF regeneration but failing?
