Peugeot 406 Generator Fault

I'm writing to ask about a possible generator issue in my 2002 Peugeot 406 diesel. It has 236481 km. I'm seeing reduced engine power, a warning light on the speedometer, and hard starts. The lights are also weak and flicker. Diagnostic checks found an error. Could this be a bad generator?

Sounds familiar! I had almost the same with my 406. Battery low, charging system light popping up, the whole shebang. Did you check the voltage drop across the battery when starting? That gave me a big clue.

Sure thing. I don't remember the exact numbers now, but it was way below what it should be when cranking. Enough to point to the alternator being shot. Honestly, I just took it to a workshop after that. Saved myself a headache.
