Peugeot 406 Lighting Fault

My 2003 Peugeot 406 (gasoline engine) lighting is acting up. Mileage is at 212144 km. When I switch the lights on, an error is stored. I suspect it's a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone encountered this before? Where should I start, and is there a common weak point in the wiring?

Faulty light switch, eh? Have you checked the fuse box? Sometimes a simple blown fuse can cause weird lighting issues. Are the dashboard lights affected, or is it just the headlights/taillights? Could be the dimmer switch as well. Have you looked at that?

I did check the fuses, and they seem fine. Dashboard lights are affected too - they flicker occasionally. Regarding the dimmer switch, how would I go about testing it? Is there a specific pinout I should be looking for with a multimeter?

If the dashboard lights are also flickering, that points towards the dimmer switch or a broader wiring issue. Testing the dimmer switch with a multimeter can be tricky without the proper documentation. Honestly, with all those symptoms, it might be best to get it checked out by a workshop. Could save you a lot of headache trying to diagnose it yourself.

Thanks for the input. Ended up taking it to a workshop as suggested. Turns out it was indeed a faulty light switch with corroded connectors, like I suspected. New switch and cleaning up the connections set me back 95€. All sorted now.
