Peugeot 406 Oil Temperature Warning Light

My 2000 Peugeot 406 diesel's oil temperature warning light keeps popping up. I've got an error code logged, and the oil pressure light flickers sometimes! I'm thinking it might be a dodgy oil temperature sensor, maybe a bad connection? Anyone seen this before?

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my old Saab 9-5. Turned out to be a corroded connector on the sensor harness. Have you checked the wiring and plug for any signs of damage or corrosion? Give them a good clean with contact cleaner, that might do the trick.

Good shout! Whereabouts is that sensor usually located on the 406? I've had a quick poke around, but I can't immediately spot it. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Okay, so on my Saab, it was near the oil filter housing. Check around that area on your Peugeot. Honestly, if cleaning the contacts doesn't fix it, and the lights keep coming on, I'd advise getting it checked by a workshop. Faulty oil pressure is not something to ignore.

You were spot on. The plug was loose and a bit crusty. Cleaned it up, but no joy. Took it to a garage in the end. Turns out the sensor was knackered. New sensor and fitting came to 95€. All good now!
