Peugeot 406 rough idle stalling smoke
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Peugeot 406 diesel is experiencing rough idling, increased fuel consumption, occasional stalling, a check engine light, and smoke during acceleration. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the mass air flow meter (LMM). It is advised to have the vehicle checked by a professional workshop to confirm the fault and address the problem effectively.

When you say 'investigating further,' what do you mean? Did you try cleaning the sensor first, or replace it? Did you notice any smoke when accelerating?

I didn't try cleaning it. With those symptoms, especially the engine stalling, I took it straight to a workshop. They confirmed the sensor was faulty. Best to get it checked properly.

Okay, good to know. I was hoping for a simple fix, but it sounds like a workshop is inevitable. Thanks for sharing your experience; it's really helpful!

Sounds familiar. I had similar symptoms on my old Opel Astra check engine light, rough idling. Turned out to be the mass air flow sensor. Might be worth investigating.
