Thanks for the tip! I haven't specifically checked the wiring harness near the steering column. Is it difficult to access? Also, yes, my car does have a rain sensor. How would I test that?

Accessing the wiring harness requires removing some of the steering column trim, which isn't too difficult, but can be a little fiddly. As for the rain sensor, unfortunately, testing it directly is not easy without specialized tools. Given that you have an error code stored and have already checked the basics, I would cautiously suggest taking it to a workshop to diagnose the wiring harness. They'll have the equipment to properly test the circuits and pinpoint the exact location of the fault. In my case, I went through this process and the diagnostic test narrowed the problem down quickly.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a workshop as suggested. It was, indeed, a faulty wiring harness connection near the steering column. Repair cost me 95€. Problem solved!

I had a similar problem with my 406. In my case, it turned out to be a defective cable or plug connection within the steering column. Have you checked the wiring harness that goes to the wiper switch? A bad connection there could definitely cause those symptoms. Also, does your car have a rain sensor? If so, that could be another potential source of the issue.
