Peugeot 407 Brake Light Failure
Summary of the thread
The 2006 Peugeot 407 experienced a brake light failure, with an error message displayed on the infotainment system. The issue was suspected to be a faulty brake light switch, as the bulbs were checked and found to be fine. Upon inspection, the brake light switch was discovered to be dislodged from its mounting. Reattaching the switch resolved the problem, eliminating the error message and restoring brake light functionality.

The error appears consistently. When the engine starts, the error message is displayed immediately, and the brake lights don't work. The error memory also consistently stores the same fault. Are you suggesting it's almost certainly the brake light switch? The symptoms you describe mirror mine, and this gives me hope.

Given the consistency of the error, it does sound like the brake light switch. Diagnosing car issues can be tricky. It's best to have it checked at a workshop to confirm the fault. They can properly diagnose the issue and replace the switch if needed.

Thanks for the advice. I inspected the brake pedal area, and the switch had simply become dislodged from its mounting. Reattaching it resolved the issue, and the error message disappeared. The repair cost was 0€. The switch simply wasn't making contact!

I had a similar issue with my 2012 Opel Astra. Same symptoms – faulty brake lights and an error message. In my case, it was a bad brake light switch. Is the error consistently present, or does it come and go?
