Peugeot 407 Oil Pressure Warning and Engine Noise
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Peugeot 407 diesel is experiencing intermittent oil pressure warning lights and loud mechanical engine noises. The issue could be due to a faulty oil pressure sensor or a defective oil pump, despite the oil level being adequate and recently changed. It is advised to have the oil pump inspected at a workshop to prevent potential engine damage.

The oil level is fine, and there are no signs of oil leakage. I did an oil change about 8000 km ago, using the correct engine oil. Could a faulty oil pump really cause these symptoms even with sufficient oil?

Yes, absolutely. In my case with the Astra, the oil pump wasn't providing enough pressure, even with enough oil. The low pressure triggered the warning light and caused the engine to make some pretty nasty noises. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to get it checked out properly.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I appreciate the advice. I'll take the Peugeot to a workshop to have the oil pump inspected. The repair ultimately cost 755€.

Sounds familiar. My old Opel Astra had similar symptoms. It was a defective oil pump. Have you checked the engine oil level? Also, when was the last oil change?
