Yeah, now that you mention it, the heater does seem to be taking its sweet time to actually get warm! So, you reckon it's definitely the electric auxiliary heater then? Where did you start looking to diagnose it? Is there a way to test it before I start ripping things apart?

That's what it was in my case, but I'm no mechanic. I went straight to a workshop - they confirmed it was the PTC heater not working properly. Best get it checked properly, these modern heaters can be a pain to diagnose without the right gear.

Appreciate the input! I took it to my local garage and they ran some tests. Turns out you were spot on – the PTC heater was indeed defective. Quoted me 350€ for the repair. Bit of a sting, but at least I know what the problem is now.

Sounds familiar. I've got a 407 diesel too and had similar symptoms last winter. Rough running on cold starts, and the fuel consumption was noticeably worse. Did you notice if the heating inside the car takes longer to warm up as well? It could be the heating element...
