Peugeot 407 Transmission Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2006 Peugeot 407 diesel exhibited transmission issues, including warning lights, emergency mode activation, gear slipping, and grinding noises. The error memory indicated a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. A low gearbox oil level was suspected as a potential cause. After checking at a workshop, it was confirmed that the low oil level was indeed causing the sensor to malfunction, leading to the issues. The problem was resolved by adjusting the oil level and replacing the sensor.

Yes, that's exactly it. The revs sometimes go up without proper gear engagement. How did you check the oil level?

It's a bit tricky to check the level yourself without the proper tools, it's not like a regular dipstick. Considering your symptoms, especially the grinding noises, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop to get it checked properly before you do more damage.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to a workshop, and you were right. It was the oil level, which was causing the temperature sensor to read incorrectly. Repair came to 365€, including a new sensor. All seems good now!

Hey, I had similar issues with my 407. By slipping I assume you mean the gears are not engaging properly? Also does the car rev when it happens? Low oil definitely could be the culprit. Worth checking the level first!
