Peugeot 408 Camshaft Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Peugeot 408 with a gasoline engine is experiencing rough starting, power loss, and an illuminated check engine light, with an OBD2 reader indicating a camshaft sensor issue. The problem may stem from a faulty connection, such as corrosion or damage at the sensor's connector or wiring. The suggested solution is to inspect and possibly replace the connector and sensor, which resolved the issue in this case.

Thanks! When you say 'connector,' are you talking about where the sensor plugs into the wiring harness? I gave it a quick look, but honestly, I didn't spend a ton of time on it. What exactly should I be looking for – besides obvious corrosion?

Yes, I am referring to the connection between the camshaft sensor and the wiring harness. Look for any signs of damage to the connector itself - cracks, broken plastic, or bent pins. Furthermore, examine the wires entering the connector. I would strongly recommend taking your Peugeot to a workshop. In my case, the workshop found a defective cable or plug connection of the component which caused the error. The repair cost me 95€.

Turns out you were spot on about the connector! Took it to a mechanic who found a corroded pin inside the plug. New connector and sensor (they recommended replacing both), and she's running like a champ again. Thanks so much for the advice! Appreciate it!

I experienced something similar with my 408. Same symptoms: poor starting, noticeable power loss, and the check engine light pointing to the camshaft sensor. Before you start replacing parts, have you checked the sensor's connector itself? They can corrode or become loose over time, causing intermittent signals. Also, inspect the wiring more closely for any breaks or damage you might have missed.
